Our sustainability progress 2022

It has now been a year since we formalised the Fossflakes sustainability programme, and we are incredibly pleased with the many positive responses we have received from our customers and stakeholders.

Below, we have highlighted some of the progress we have made so far:

CO2 footprint

Our top priority is to reduce the CO2 footprint of our products and our company as a whole. This is why we have calculated Fossflakes’ annual CO2 emissions for 2021, as well as assessed the environmental impact from the production of our best‑selling pillows. This CO2 footprint assessment is an important part of our ongoing strategy to reduce our impact, and it forms the baseline from which we will measure our future progress.

Reducing air freight

In 2022, we set a goal to avoid air freight wherever possible. We are pleased to report that we have only used air freight once so far – a small shipment sent to a new customer. All other transport has been by sea or road, which we intend to continue.

KPIs help us measure our sustainability progress

To ensure that we can monitor and report on our efforts, we have established KPIs for each of the four focus areas in our sustainability programme. We are currently upgrading our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, which manages our daily transactional processes, so that it supports these goals.

Career‑enhancing opportunities

One of our goals is to support each employee’s individual career development. This year, one of our employees completed a leadership course and has since been promoted to team leader in production. We have also supported the decision to upskill two employees by helping them obtain a forklift licence.

Our sustainability report has received high praise

We hope you have had the chance to read our sustainability report. We are both grateful and humbled that our report has been recognised as one of the best among Danish small and medium‑sized companies by FSR – Danish Auditors and Global Compact Network Denmark. The organisations highlighted in particular the openness and level of detail in the report. We aim to remain transparent when communicating about sustainability.

Our initiatives are meant to inspire others

We have shared our knowledge and our story about our sustainability journey at Copenhagen Business School, at the invitation of the university’s Executive Foundation. At an event in November, I had the opportunity to present our insights and experience with sustainability to other business leaders. I look forward to continuing these conversations and hope to inspire others to take action.
